For the third year, Council #3274 supported some of our neediest brothers and sisters at Christmas by conducting a Toy Drive to benefit the migrant worker children in Homestead, and Haitian-American children through their parish the Cathedral of St. Mary in Miami.
In 2003, more than 4,000 toys were collected and distributed. Member Knights once again participated in the collection phase which included collection site solicitation, box placement and pick up, and toy sorting, and nearly thirty members plus wives and children took part in the distribution effort which included loading and unloading toys, matching toys to children, and preparing family appropriate packages. The collection was conducted by members of Council #3274 in their places of business and through other Coral Gables merchant locations using collection boxes marked with the logo of the Order and “Help the Needy this Christmas – Knights of Columbus Toy Drive”.
For the second year, responded to a request from St. Mary Cathedral Council 12758 to collect toys for their community and we did so. It brought our members a special joy to not only help needy children in Miami’s Little Haiti, but to do so through the Knights of Columbus Council in their community. Our brothers in Council # 12758 were very grateful and claimed that our toy distribution not only resulted in many happy children and grateful parents, it also resulted in new members thanks to the great exposure their council received. The toy distribution was conducted in the community center next to Miami’s Cathedral after Sunday Mass.
