Early Cinco de Mayo party raises more than $15,000 for Knights scholarship fund
Thursday, April 10 @ 22:43:40 EDT
Once again, the Knights of Columbus in Coral Gables have raised the funds needed to ensure that a needy inner city child can attend a Catholic high school. "This year we decided to have a fun Cinco de Mayo Party at our newly remodeled hall," explained event Chairman Fernando Garcia, "and even though this has been a tough year for many businesses, the community really came through." "This will be our ninth year providing at least one four-year scholarship. Last year one of the local Catholic high schools called to ask us to sponsor a second child and we did so. Past winners have shown their appreciation for the opportunity by graduating at or near the top of their class and providing numerous hours of volunteer service to their schools and community. We are really proud of these kids and it pleases us to be able to focus the generosity of our membership and our community to make a positive difference in their lives," explained Grand Knight Jose Matute. The Knight’s Cinco de Mayo Dinner Dance & Silent Auction took place on Friday May 2, at 7:30pm and raised more than $15,000.
