To celebrate 50+ years of service by the Knights of Columbus in Coral Gables and to invite back many “old-timers” that have retired to North Florida, giving them an opportunity to relive old memories and share stories with the current membership.
This event also provided an excellent opportunity to recruit new members by exposing them to how special the Knights of Columbus can be over the years to members and their families. Knights and their families had a great time on Saturday the 5th of October 2003, sharing stories, memorabilia, and photos. The Schedule of Events included a Family Bowling Tournament from 12:00 noon until 1:30 p.m., 5:00 p.m. Vigil Mass at the Church of the Little Flower, and a Fish Fry that started at 6:30 p.m. at the Coral Gables Knights of Columbus Hall. The event drew Knights in their 70’s, some in wheelchairs, that had not returned to Coral Gables in decades as well as many of the Council’s younger members that brought their preschool aged children. Numerous non-Knight guests and their families were invited and they all left favorably impressed with the organization. Three such guests have subsequently become Knights. The day was truly a celebration of Faith, Family and Fraternity that lasted until past nearly midnight with no one wanting to leave.
