Despite a tough economy that has taken a toll on the businesses and practices of many members, Council #3274 managed to host our second Black-tie Gala and raised more than $21,000, netting more that $7,000.
While the $7,000 raised was less than the $10,000 the prior year’s event yielded at this $100 per plate affair, the Gala was none the less a success, gaining the Council recognition and favorable press in the society pages of Miami’s English and Spanish language newspapers.
This was a difficult “swimming against the current activity” that tested the resolve of the organizing committee, especially when a number of the prior year’s “heavy-hitters” that had purchased a table or two, could only purchase two or four tickets this year. Committee members resorted to “calling in every favor” and in the end, all that attended had a wonderful time in one of Coral Gables historical buildings, dancing to the sounds of one of Miami’s legendary dance Band’s, the Judge’s Nephews.
As a result of a successful event, Council #3274 will be able to once again award the winner of the Knights of Columbus Essay Contest at St Francis Xavier Catholic School in Overtown a scholarship to a Catholic High School.
